Description |
Cross Green area of map prepared by Derby Surveyor John Bromley in 1842 for the executors of the will of Thomas Babington, Lord of the Manor & Soke of Rothley, who died in November 1837. The two Executors, Babington's sons John and George Gisborne, had finally agreed a sale of the entire estate to Babington's brother in law, Sir James Parker, the Vice Chancellor of England, and this map with the accompanying valuation schedule was the basis of the sale. Original map at the Leicestershire Record Office under class 1D38/6, and the schedule at 11D42/1. The map clearly shows the location of the Manor Courthouse and the village Gaol. |
